Loic Remy scored a brace after halftime match undefeated streak with a 2-0 win Sunday at the Stade Velodrome in Ligue 1.

Defending Ligue 1 champion Lille opened the season with a draw and defeat, but put together the impressive streak to make its case as a contender again this season.

But after a loss to Lyon in the Coupe de la Ligue on Wednesday, Marseille beat Lille in Ligue 1 play to leave the champions seven points off the pace of PSG.

Marseille won its third straight and for the fifth time during a six-match run without a loss, as it climbed to sixth in the table.

Remy scored in the 61st and 83rd minutes, heading home a Mathieu Valbuena pass for the opener before taking advantage of a mistake from Aurelien Chedjou with 7 minutes remaining to add the clincher.

After a poor start to the season, Marseille has won nine of its last 14 with a single loss in that stretch, and is just nine points behind PSG.
