Seattle, WA – The New York Yankees and Seattle Mariners have reportedly agreed to a swap of young players on Friday.
Several media outlets are reporting that the Yankees will receive right-handed pitchers Michael Pineda and Jose Campos for catcher Jesus Montero and righty Hector Noesi.
Pineda, who turns 23 on Wednesday, was named to the All-Star team in his rookie season of 2011 as he went 9-10 with a 3.74 earned run average over 28 starts. He led rookies in strikeouts with 173 and walked just 55.
Campos, 19, went 5-5 with a 2.32 ERA for Triple-A Everett last season.
Montero, 22, was a late call-up for New York last season and in 18 games he hit four home runs and drove in 12 while batting .328 and scoring nine times. He is considered one of the premier right-handed power prospects in the majors.
Noesi, 24, appeared in 30 games last season, 28 out of the bullpen. He went 2-2 with a 4.47 ERA with 45 strikeouts and 22 walks.
