Wisconsin QB Wilson won't report to Rockies' camp

Former Wisconsin quarterback Russell Wilson has decided he will not report to spring training for the Colorado Rockies, and will instead pursue a professional football career.

Wilson told the New York Times that he wants to focus on football. He led the Badgers to an 11-3 record and Big Ten championship this fall in his only season with the program. Wilson set the NCAA single-season record for pass efficiency (191.8) while setting school marks for passing yards (3,175), touchdown passes (33), completions (225) and yards of total offense (3,513).

He had previously played football at North Carolina State, but also had played in the Rockies' minor league system.

Colorado selected Wilson in the fourth round of the 2010 draft, and in parts of two seasons at the Single-A level, he hit .229 with five homers, 29 RBI and 19 stolen bases in 93 games. He also posted a .354 on-base percentage.
