Simon Cho (Laurel, Md.) and Lana Gehring (Glenview, Ill.) time U.S. champion Katherine Reutter (Champaign, Ill.) and Alyson Dudek (Hales Corners, Wis.).

TEAM USA COMPETES IN WORLD CUP

Julia Mancuso (Reno, Nev.) led the U.S. women with a second-place finish in the downhill race at the Audi FIS Alpine World Cup event in Bad Kleinkirchheim, Austria. Meanwhile, teammate Lindsey Vonn (St. Paul, Minn.) finished fourth. Ted Ligety (Salt Lake City, Utah) also finished fourth in the event.

BIATHLON

Team USA had a strong showing at the IBU Cup in Forni Avoltri, Italy, as Tracy Barnes (Durango, Colo.) placed seventh in the 15 km individual race and Russell Currier (Stockholm, Maine) finished seventh in the 20 km individual race. Barnes clocked a 48:13.8 finish and had clean shooting, and Currier crossed the finish line at 56:24.8 with clean shooting.

Team USA biathletes competed at the Oberhof World Cup, where Jay Hakkinen (Kasilof, Alaska) took the top spot for the U.S., finishing 28th. Susan Dunklee (Barton, Vt.) had an impressive world cup debut, as she placed 35th in the 7.5 km sprint.

BOWLING

Marshall Kent (Yakima, Wash.) and Danielle McEwan (Stony Point, N.Y.) claimed titles at the United States Bowling Congress Team USA Trials on Jan. 6, earning the right to compete in the 2012 QubicaAMF World Cup.

BOBSLED & SKELETON

The Europa Cup in Ingls, Austria, was cut short for skeleton athletes as heavy snowfall caused a cancellation in the races. Prior to the cancellation, Mike Dellemann (Oregon, Wis.) posted the best results for Team USA, finishing eighth in both races against a field of 39 men. Megan Henry (Roxbury, Conn.) was the top U.S. women's finisher, placing ninth in a field of 37 competitors.

USA-1 bobsledders Steven Holcomb (Park City, Utah), Justin Olsen (San Antonio, Texas), Steve Langton (Melrose, Mass.) and Curt Tomasevicz (Shelby, Neb.) placed ninth in the world cup race in Altenberg, Germany. In the two-man, Holcomb and Langton posted a race time of 56.81 seconds, earning a fifth-place finish. Meanwhile, Dallas Robinson (Richmond, Ky.) and Napier paired for 17th place and women's bobsledders Bree Schaaf (Bremerton, Wash.) and Emily Azevedo (Chico, Calif.) earned a fifth-place finish. In skeleton, Katie Uhlaender (Breckenridge, Colo.) finished sixth.

CYCLING

Jeremy Powers (Easthampton, Mass) and Katie Compton (Colorado Springs, Colo.) won elite national titles after the USA Cycling Cyclo-Cross National Championships concluded five days of competition in Madison, Wis.

LUGE

Christian Niccum (Woodinville, Wash.) and Jayson Terdiman (Berwick, Pa.), took a ninth-place finish in the world cup in Koenigssee, Germany, while Erin Hamlin (Remsen, N.Y.) and Kate Hansen (La Canada, Calif.) finished 11th and 16th.

WRESTLING

Brent Metcalf (Iowa City, Iowa), a two-time NCAA champion and World Team Trials champion in 2010, defeated Canadian Haislan Garcia in an international bout in Iowa City, Iowa. Steve Mocco (Bethlehem, Pa.) defeated German Nick Matuhin in a 264.5-pound matchup.
