Carolina Hurricanes forward Chad LaRose was hurt during practice Monday and the team recalled forward Jerome Samson from its AHL affiliate in Charlotte on an emergency basis.

The Hurricanes termed it an upper body injury for LaRose, but the Raleigh News & Observer reported that it could be a head injury. The paper said LaRose's head hit the cage during a battle in front of the net, forcing him to the locker room for treatment.

LaRose is the third-leading goal scorer for the Hurricanes this season with 11 and has 21 points in 43 games.

Samson leads Charlotte with 15 goals and is the team's second-leading scorer with 27 points. He has appeared in 30 games for the Hurricanes, notching four assists.
