Speir building Western Carolina coaching staff

Western Carolina first-year head football coach Mark Speir has brought three assistants from Appalachian State to join his Catamounts staff.

On Tuesday, Brad Glenn was named the offensive coordinator, Trey Elder the wide receivers coach and John Holt the offensive line coach.

Speir also announced he has retained three current WCU assistant coaches - Mark Rhea (defensive line), Arketa Banks (running backs) and Chris Collins (defensive assistant, secondary) - as well as Dan Gibson, the director of football operations.

Speir, who spent the last nine seasons as an assistant coach at Appalachian State, hopes to complete his coaching staff with at least two additional hires.

Western Carolina 1-10 overall and 0-8 in the Southern Conference this past season.
