Phoenix Coyotes forward Raffi Torres was suspended two games by the NHL for launching himself into Wild defenseman Nate Prosser during Saturday's game.

The open-ice check in question occurred at 7:57 of the first period, though no penalty was issued.

"Torres' skates leave the ice before contact is made and are well off the ice at the moment of impact. This is a clear violation of the charging rule," said Brendan Shanahan, the senior vice president of player safety and hockey operations. "It is important to note this was the third game in a row that Torres has gotten the attention of the department of player safety for contact to the head."

Torres will lose $42,682.92 and will sit out Tuesday's game at St. Louis and Thursday's game at Los Angeles.
