The University of Virginia announced a year contract extension and a raise for second-year head football coach Mike London on Friday.

London, whose annual salary increases to $2.1 million, has guided Virginia to its first bowl appearance since the 2007 season. The Cavaliers face Auburn in the Chick-fil-A Bowl on Saturday.

The two-year addition will extend London's contract through 2016. His extension also includes a longevity bonus effective January 2015.

"Mike London and his staff are a great fit for the University of Virginia," said athletics director Craig Littlepage. "Commitment and continuity on the staff are major components of building a program. We want to keep the program's momentum moving and this extension will help achieve that."

London was named the Atlantic Coast Conference's coach of the year after leading the Cavaliers to an 8-4 record, including a 5-3 mark in league play.
