Hawks seek repeat against Nets

The Atlanta Hawks will face the New Jersey Nets for the second time this week tonight at Philips Arena.

The Hawks opened the condensed 2011-12 season with a 106-70 blowout of the Nets on the road, as six players six scored in double figures. Vladimir Radmanovic had a team-high 17 points to lead the way in that one.

Atlanta then returned home and handed the Washington Wizards a 101-83 defeat and received double-double performances from Josh Smith and Al Horford. Smith scored 15 and had 10 rebounds. while Horford netted 11 and grabbed 10 boards for the Hawks, who are 2-0 for the second straight year and started last season's slate with a 6-0 mark.

"We got of to a good start tonight," said Marvin Williams, who scored 17 and pulled down eight rebounds. "We always want to start of 2-0. We had a great camp and I think guys are really anxious to get out there and see what were made of against some of these other teams in the league."

Joe Johnson scored 18 points in a winning cause. After hosting the Nets down in Georgia, the Hawks will hit the road for three games against Houston, Miami and Chicago.

New Jersey started the season on a promising note with a win at Washington, but has dropped back-to-back games against the Hawks and Magic.

In last night's loss at Orlando in the opener of a three-game road trip, MarShon Brooks led the way with 17 points and Deron Williams scored 10 points and dished out seven assists. Kris Humphries added nine points and grabbed 10 rebounds in defeat.

"It is definitely frustrating," Williams said. "I am not playing well right now and the team is not playing too well right now. It is not time to panic. We are going to have a little bit of struggles just because everybody is learning."

Williams was 8-for-22 in the season opener, 3-of-11 against the Hawks and finished just 2-of-12 last night in Orlando. The Nets will close out the road trip Sunday at Cleveland.

New Jersey has dropped three of four and seven of the last nine meetings with Atlanta, and is winless in its last five games at Philips Arena.
