The Detroit Red Wings placed forward Tomas Holmstrom on injured reserve and recalled forward Gustav Nyquist from Grand Rapids of the AHL.

Holmstrom has been sidelined with a groin injury since Monday's win in Nashville, and the Wings decided to officially shut him down on Thursday.

The 38-year-old Swede has totaled six goals and 15 points in 33 games this season.

Nyquist was called up due to Holmstrom's injury as well as forward Darren Helm's groin issue, which, according to MLive.com, will keep him out for both Friday and Saturday's games.

Nyquist appeared in one game previously, on November 1 against Minnesota, and was held scoreless.
