New Jersey Nets center Brook Lopez displaced stress fracture of the fifth metatarsal of the right foot.

"A single screw was inserted into the bone to stabilize the fracture and speed up the healing process," said foot specialist Dr. Martin O'Malley, who performed Friday's procedure at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan. "He was placed in a boot and will walk with the aid of crutches. Brook will begin his rehab in two weeks."

The 7-footer is projected to return to game action in 6-to-8 weeks.

Taken 10th overall by the Nets in the 2008 NBA Draft, Lopez averaged 20.4 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.6 assists last season. The 23-year-old did not miss a game in each of his first three seasons.

The Nets also made an addition to their roster, signing guard DeShawn Stevenson.

An 11-year veteran, Stevenson has averaged 7.7 points and 2.2 rebounds in 717 career games with Utah, Orlando, Washington and Dallas.
