Louisiana Tech head football coach Sonny Dykes has agreed to a contract extension through the 2017 season.

The school announced the move Wednesday before the Bulldogs played No. 16 TCU in the Poinsettia Bowl.

The contract is pending approval from the University of Louisiana Board of Supervisors.

Hired in January 2010, Dykes led Louisiana Tech to a WAC championship in his second season at the helm. The Bulldogs entered their bowl game 8-4 after winning their final seven games of the season.

"I am excited about the future of our program," Dykes said. "I look forward to greater success for our football team."

Prior to coaching Louisiana Tech, Dykes spent three seasons as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach a Arizona. He has also been a co-offensive coordinator at Texas Tech and an assistant at Kentucky.
