Jordi Gomez scored with 2 minutes remaining 1 draw Saturday at DW Stadium in the English Premier League.

Chelsea handed Manchester City its first EPL loss Monday, and was in position to post its third straight win and fourth in its last five matches when Daniel Sturridge opened the scoring after 59 minutes.

But Wigan piled on the pressure late, and was rewarded when Gomez slotted home a loose ball inside the 6-yard area in the 88th minute for his fourth goal in his last five games.

Chelsea wasted a chance to close within two points of idle Manchester United for second place, and could slip into fourth behind Tottenham on Sunday, ahead of its showdown with Spurs on Thursday.

After a scoreless first half, Sturridge continued to show he's a better option than Spanish striker Fernando Torres with his team-leading eighth goal. Torres has just two goals this season.

With Frank Lampard on the sideline receiving treatment for a facial injury, an impressive long ball from Ashley Cole sent Sturridge into the area alone. With a nice touch with his left foot, Sturridge settled and sent a half-volley back to the far post with his right foot from a tight angle.

Lampard pumped his fist while still receiving treatment but Chelsea was unable to escape with three points, as Wigan followed with the tying goal.

Franco Di Santo was unlucky to miss the equalizer in the 76th when he lofted a shot toward an empty net following a defensive mistake, only to see Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic head the ball away from the empty net.

Wigan converted its next good chance, as Hugo Rodallega's initial attempt was spilled by Chelsea goalie Petr Cech, and Gomez reached the loose ball with a sliding shot to score into an empty net.

Chelsea momentarily picked up the pace, but Wigan actually created a pair of half-chances during 4 minutes of stoppage time as it nearly sent the Blues to London with a loss.

Stoke City 2, Wolverhampton 1

Wolverhampton, England - Peter Crouch scored in the 70th minute as Stoke City overcame an early deficit to win its fourth successive English Premier League match, 2-1 over Wolverhampton on Saturday at Molineux Stadium.

Stoke has surged to eighth in the standings, just two points behind Liverpool for seventh, and only five behind Arsenal for a top-five place. Wolverhampton, which lost for the fourth time at home, is two points above the drop zone.

City started its comeback when Robert Huth's shot off a free kick took a big deflection off Doyle and left Wolves goalie Wayne Hennessey stranded.

Crouch added the game-winner off a cross from Matthew Etherington, as he moved in front of Wolverhampton's Stephen Ward at the far post to convert his fourth of the season and hand Stoke its first win at Wolverhampton in over 40 years.

Fulham won for the second time in its last three EPL matches, and has just one loss in its last five in England. Fulham moved to 11th in the table, just one point out of the top half.

Blackburn, England - Peter Odemwingie's 89th-minute goal lifted West Bromwich to a 2-1 win over Blackburn on Saturday at Ewood Park in the English Premier League, piling more pressure on Rovers coach Steve Kean.

James Morrison fired West Brom in front on 53 minutes, but Scott Dann pulled a goal back in the 72nd, only to watch Odemwingie curl a shot into the corner in the final minute of normal time.

West Brom snapped a three-game winless run, as it climbed to 13th on 18 points from 16 matches. Blackburn lost for the sixth time in eight home matches as it remained cemented in the bottom three with just 10 points from 16 games.

Kean recently signed an improved contract with Blackburn, but his run could be over in a few days, should Blackburn lose at home against Bolton on Tuesday.

Newcastle, England - Newcastle's woes continued Saturday, as it settled for a 0-0 tie at St. James' Park against Swansea City in the English Premier League.

Since opening the season on an 11-game unbeaten streak, Newcastle has not won over its last five matches. The skid started with a 3-1 setback to Manchester City when both clubs were still unbeaten, then a tie against Manchester United and a loss to Chelsea followed.
