Senators' Michalek out with concussion

Ottawa, ON – Ottawa Senators forward Milan Michalek is to-day after suffering a concussion during Tuesday's 3-2 overtime victory against the Buffalo Sabres.

Michalek, the NHL's leading goal scorer with 19, was injured when he collided with teammate Erik Karlsson in open ice during the third period of Tuesday's game.

Michalek will not play on Wednesday, when the Senators face the defending Stanley Cup champion Boston Bruins.

The news continues a harrowing recent trend of promising young NHL stars going out with concussion issues. Penguins center Sidney Crosby is out again with concussion-like symptoms after playing only eight games following a 10-month absence as a result of a concussion suffered in the 2011 Winter Classic.

Also, Flyers center Claude Giroux, the league's points leader, is out indefinitely after suffering a concussion in Saturday's 5-2 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning, and, Hurricanes forward Jeff Skinner, the 2011 Calder Trophy winner, is also out with a concussion.
