The Boston Red Sox signed infielder Nick Punto year contract on Wednesday.

Last season with St. Louis, he batted .278 with one home run and 20 RBI in 63 games. He also played in 15 of the 18 games in the playoffs to help the Cardinals win their 11th World Series.

Originally a 21st-round draft pick of Philadelphia in 1998, the 34-year-old has spent 11 seasons in the majors with the Phillies, Twins and Cardianls.

In 887 games, he is a .249 hitter with 14 home runs and 218 RBI.
