The St. Louis Cardinals signed infielder- year contract on Monday.

Schumaker, 31, batted .283 with two home runs and 38 RBI in 117 games last season with St. Louis. Also, he batted .381 in the playoffs and drove in the game-winning run in a 1-0 win over the Phillies in Game 5 of the Division Series.

The seven-year veteran has spent his entire career in St. Louis and is a .290 hitter over 703 games. He also has 22 home runs and 183 RBI along with 303 runs scored.

Also, the team opted to not offer a 2012 contract to infielder Ryan Theriot, who now becomes a free agent.

Last season, the 32-year-old Theriot hit .271 with one home run and 47 RBI in 132 games. However, he batted just .242 in the playoffs and had just one hit in 13 at-bats in the World Series.

Over his seven-year career, he has batted .282 with 17 homers and 229 RBI in 795 games with the Cardinals, Dodgers and Cubs.
