Chiefs fire Todd Haley

Less than a season after guiding the Kansas City Chiefs to a surprising AFC West title, Todd Haley has been fired as the club's head coach.

The Chiefs went from 4-12 in Haley's first season of 2009 to 10-6 with a division crown last year, but are just 5-8 this season.

"This was a difficult decision but one that we feel is best for the future of the Chiefs," said Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt in a statement on Monday. "Although there have been bright spots at different points this season, we have not made meaningful progress and we felt that it was necessary to make a change. We appreciate Todd's contributions during his time with the club, and we wish him well in the future."

The Chiefs were 19-26 during Haley's tenure.
