Montpellier had its eight-game undefeated streak snapped, as it allowed PSG to pull level on 36 points atop the standings. Montpellier still leads, but only on goal differential.

Valenciennes, which had lost its last two fixtures, moved two points above the relegation zone after just its fourth win of the season.

Kadir notched the lone goal with a conversion to the upper-right corner in the 46th minute as Valenciennes remained tough at home. Although it sits just 16th in the table, it has four wins and three draws in eight home games.

However, Valenciennes is winless on the road with seven losses and two draws. Montpellier lost for just the second time in nine road matches.

PSG 1, Sochaux 0

Montbeliard, France - Kevin Gameiro scored his ninth goal of the season, good for second in Ligue 1, as PSG edged Sochaux 1-0 at the Stade Auguste Bonal on Saturday to pull level on points with first-place Montpellier.

PSG just snapped a three-game winless skid last week, and Gameiro helped it to its second straight win when he turned Javier Pastore's pass into the bottom- left corner to finish off a quick attack in the 20th minute.

The Paris club won its 11th of the season, tied with Montpellier for most, and trails the leaders only on goal differential.

Sochaux is winless in four straight, and just three point above the relegation zone.

Marseille 0, Bordeaux 0

Marseille, France - Marseille and Bordeaux, winners of two of the last three Ligue 1 titles, played to a 0-0 draw Saturday at the Stade Velodrome as both sides wasted a chance to pick up more ground on the top spot.

Leader Montpellier lost to Valenciennes, 1-0, on Saturday, giving both former champions an opportunity to make a move toward the top, but the points were split.

Marseille has just one loss in its last 11 as it continues to recover from a poor start, but is still 11 points off the pace of Montpellier and PSG, who are both on 36 points.

Bordeaux has just one loss in its last seven, and is 16 points off the pace.

Nancy 2, Ajaccio 2

Nancy, France - Daniel Niculae scored 3 minutes into stoppage time as Nancy tied Ajaccio, 2-2, at the Stade Marcel Picot on Saturday in a meeting of the bottom two sides in Ligue 1.

Djamel Bakar put Nancy in front after 10 minutes, but an own goal from Andre Luiz before halftime and a Johan Cavalli in the 73rd put Ajaccio in position to end its 11-game winless skid.

But Niculae turned Jung Jo-Gook's headed pass into the top-right corner deep in stoppage time as Nancy avoided its third straight loss.

Nancy climbed one place to 18th, while Ajaccio saw its winless skid reach 12 games and it remained buried at the bottom of the table.

Rennes 1, Brest 1

Rennes, France - Romain Danze scored on the half-hour mark as Rennes equalized an early goal from Brest for a 1-1 draw at the Stade de la Route de Lorient on Saturday in Ligue 1.

Nolan Roux scored after 17 minutes for Brest, which has yet to win on the road this season, but the lead was erased 13 minutes later as it fell to 0-4-5 this season away from home.

Rennes earned its fourth result in its last five when Danze headed a pass from Julien Feret into the net.

Rennes is fifth in the table, while Brest is just two points above the bottom three.

St Etienne 2, Caen 0

Saint Etienne, France - Banel Nicolita and Bakary Sako scored in each half as St. Etienne defeated Caen, 2-0, on Saturday at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard to extend its Ligue 1 unbeaten streak to five matches.

Nicolita opened the scoring after 10 minutes and Sako added the second goal in the 73rd, as St. Etienne picked up its seventh victory of the season and sits seventh in the standings.

Caen lost its third straight and is winless in four and sits on just 19 points after 17 matches this season.

Toulouse 2, Evian 1

Toulouse, France - Umut Bulut scored in the 90th minute as Toulouse beat Evian 2-1 on Saturday at the Stadium Municipal de Toulouse for its second win in its last three matches in Ligue 1.

Moussa Sissoko put Toulouse in front after 25 minutes, but Evian tied the game on 50 minutes when Daniel Wass scored. Bulut added the winner off a cross from Etienne Capoue with a finish to the bottom right.

Toulouse is sixth, level on 29 points with two other clubs. Evian lost for the second time in its last three, and sits just four points above the drop zone.
