Quiros leads by 2 heading into last round in Dubai

Alvaro Quiros will head into the final round of the Dubai World Championship holding a two-shot lead over Paul Lawrie of Scotland.

The big-hitting Spaniard shot a 2-under 70 in the third round Saturday to total 14-under 202 on the Earth course at Jumeirah Golf Estates.

Lawrie eagled the 18th to hit a 66 and be one stroke ahead of 2010 British Open winner Louis Oosthuizien of South Africa (66).

Top-ranked Luke Donald is fourth at 206 after shooting a 66. The Englishman is trying to become the first golfer to win the American and European money titles. Having won the American title, he must beat Rory McIlory in the Race to Dubai to wrap up the double.

McIlroy is tied for eighth at 8 under after a struggling 71.

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Luke Donald is on the verge of making history as the first golfer to win the European and American money titles after moving into contention Saturday in the third round of the Dubai World Championship and watching his nearest rival Rory McIlroy struggle.

Donald had six birdies in a bogey-free round of 66 as he moved to 10 under for the tournament and into the clubhouse lead with 10 golfers on the course.

McIlroy, who needs to win the tournament to give him any chance of overtaking Donald for the European title, is still on the course but a bogey on the fifth and a double bogey on the seventh saw him slip back.
