Last season was Garcia's best in years. The right-hander signed a minor league contract with the Yankees in February, but was added to the major league roster and went 12-8 with a 3.62 earned run average in 26 games (25 starts).
Garcia missed a handful of outings in August because of a cut on his finger, but still recorded his lowest ERA since 2001 (3.05) with Seattle. He gave up only 16 homers, his lowest total in any season of at least 25 starts, and threw at least six innings in 17 outings.
The Yankees made room for Garcia on the 40-man roster by designating outfielder Colin Curtis for assignment.
