Magic waive Arenas, mum on any Dwight Howard moves

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Magic have announced they are using a new Collective Bargaining Agreement amnesty provision to release guard Gilbert Arenas.

Orlando posted the move on its website Friday. The new amnesty provision allows a team a one-time option to waive a player's remaining contract from the salary cap and luxury tax.

The 29-year-old Arenas struggled to make an impact in Orlando after coming over from the Washington Wizards in a trade for Rashard Lewis last season. Arenas has about $62 million remaining on the final three years of his six-year, $111 million deal.

Orlando's Dwight Howard remains the center of trade talk, but Magic spokesman Joel Glass declined to comment whether the team is considering filing tampering charges against two NBA teams for illegal contact with Howard.
