Bochy, Sabean extended by Giants

San Francisco, CA – The San Francisco Giants announced on Tuesday that they have extended the contracts of both manager Bruce Bochy and general manager Brian Sabean, keeping them with the team through the 2013 campaign with a club option for 2014.

Financial terms of the deals were not announced.

"Brian and Bruce are certainly two of the finest professionals at their respective positions in all of baseball," said Giants president and incoming CEO Larry Baer in a statement. "They have effectively built and fostered a winning tradition at all levels of our organization. I have no doubt that they will achieve continued success for the Giants in the coming years and beyond."

Bochy, who took over for Felipe Alou following the 2006 campaign, just completed his 17th consecutive year as a major league manager. He currently ranks third among active big league skippers for wins and is 27th on the all- time list.

During his five-year tenure with the Giants, the team has posted a 409-401 (.505) record, including a World Series title in 2010. However, the Giants missed the postseason this past year, finishing 86-76, eight games behind the National League West champion Arizona Diamondbacks.

Prior to joining San Francisco, Bochy spent the previous 24 seasons in the San Diego organization as a player, coach and manager. The former big league catcher had success with the Padres, guiding the club to four division crowns and a trip to the World Series in 1998.

As for Sabean, he just finished his 15th straight season with the Bay Area team, making him not only the longest-serving GM in team history, but the longest-tenured GM with the same organization in baseball.

With Sabean at the helm, the Giants have captured five postseason berths, including two World Series appearances, culminating with the championship in 2010. In his 15 years the Giants have gone 1,298-1,130-1 (.534), while winning four division titles, and were named the 2010 Baseball America Organization of the Year.
