Krzyzewski's career record now stands at 902-284. The 64-year-old will get his first chance to pass Knight -- who coached Krzyzewski when he played point guard at West Point -- Tuesday in a game against national power Michigan State at New York City's Madison Square Garden.
Knight retired in 2008 with a record of 902-371 that he compiled during stints at West Point, Indiana, and Texas Tech. Knight won three national championships at Indiana and coached the last undefeated men's Division I college basketball season in 1976.
Popularly known as Coach K, Krzyzewski began his head coaching career at West Point in 1975 and joined Duke in 1980.
Duke has won four national championships and reached the Final Four 11 times under Krzyzewski. Coach K also led the US men's national basketball team to gold medals in the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the 2010 FIBA World Championship held in Turkey as head coach of the United States men's national basketball team.
