Caps use solid third period to top Devils

Jason Chimera and Marcus Johansson both scored period goals to lift the Washington Capitals to a 3-1 victory over the and-home set at Prudential Center.

Alex Ovechkin netted his seventh goal of the season for Washington, which snapped its two-game skid and New Jersey's three-game winning streak.

Tomas Vokoun made half of his 32 saves during the final 20 minutes for the Capitals, who had dropped four of their last six games since starting the season with seven consecutive victories.

Martin Brodeur stopped 17 shots in defeat.
