Baltimore, MD – The Baltimore Orioles named Dan Duquette as executive vice president of baseball operations on Tuesday.
Duquette was the GM of the Montreal Expos from September 1991 through January 1994 before going to Boston.
"I am pleased to welcome Dan Duquette to the Orioles organization," said Orioles majority owner Peter Angelos. "With an emphasis on developing players from within as well as acquiring players through the international and trade markets, Dan built the Red Sox and Expos into formidable franchises during his tenures. His record of success, extensive baseball operations leadership and strong scouting background give Dan the experience and skills essential for this position."
Duquette was hired to replace Andy MacPhail, who decided last month not to return after four-plus years in the position.
Duquette, who had been running a sports academy in Massachusetts, is the cousin of former Orioles vice president of baseball operations Jim Duquette, who resigned in 2007 after two years with the team.
The Orioles have suffered through 14 losing season in a row.
