Royals pick up option on closer Soria

The Kansas City Royals have picked up their 2012 club option on closer Joakim Soria.

The Royals announced the move Monday, bringing back the right-hander for a sixth season.

Soria, 27, has saved 160 games in 180 chances for Kansas City since his rookie year in 2007.

He was 28-of-35 in saves this past season with a 4.03 earned run average -- by far the highest ERA of his career. In 2010, he saved 43 games in 46 chances and had a 1.78 ERA.
