Chargers sign LB Bird, cut WR Walters

The San Diego Chargers signed linebacker Bront Bird from the practice squad and released receiver Bryan Walters on Monday.

Bird, an undrafted free agent out of Texas Tech, spent the first seven weeks of the season on the practice squad and played mostly special teams during the preseason.

Walters started 2011 as the team's primary punt returner. He has three receptions for 27 yards, but has been inactive for the Chargers' last three games.
