Siasia fired by Nigeria

Lagos, Nigeria – Nigeria fired national team coach Samson Siasia on Friday after failing to qualify for the 2012 African Cup of Nations.

The Nigeria Football Federation released a statement on Friday saying a search to replace Siasia would begin immediately and that the hope was for a replacement to be found by Wednesday.

Nigeria was knocked out of qualification after a draw with Guinea, a result that the federation called "an embarrassment brought to the nation."

He replaced Lars Lagerback in November 2010 and won a friendly against Argentina, but saw his team come apart in the African Cup of Nations qualifiers.
