The Chicago Bears have released safety Chris Harris.
The seventh-year veteran had appeared in just three games this season after a strong 2010 campaign. He had a career-best five interceptions to go with 70 tackles last year, but struggled in his limited role this season.
Harris had battled a hamstring injury earlier this year, then was deactivated for a Week 6 game against Minnesota, a week after being benched in a loss to Detroit when he was beaten for a 73-yard touchdown. He was back in the lineup last Sunday against Tampa Bay in London, but again was beaten for a TD and dropped a sure interception.
The Bears selected the Louisiana-Monroe product in the sixth round of the 2005 draft and he played his first two seasons with Chicago before moving to Carolina. After three seasons with the Panthers, Harris returned to Chicago last year.
Harris has 15 career interceptions with 474 tackles, 12 forced fumbles and eight fumble recoveries in 88 NFL games, including 83 starts.
The Bears, who have their bye this week, also terminated the practice squad contract of defensive end Jake Laptad.
