Cal Poly will host Yale in its first- ever game against an Ivy League school on Oct. 5, 2013, school officials announced.

Yale will be making just its third trip to California in the 137-year history of the program. The Bulldogs made trips to San Diego in 1999 and 2005, going 1-1 in games played in the Golden State.

"The opportunity to play a university with the prestige of Yale not only is great for our football program, but for our university as well," Cal Poly head coach Tim Walsh said. "We hope to show future California student-athletes they don't have to go 3,000 miles to get a great education and play college football."

Yale officials also considered scheduling Sacramento State, Portland, UC Davis and San Diego before deciding on Cal Poly.

Yale selected Cal Poly due to the university's academics, location, athletic performance across the board and the success of its football program, according to Bob Gervais, special assistant to the director of athletics at Cal Poly.
