Spartans DE Gholston suspended for Wisconsin game

The Big Ten suspended Michigan State defensive end William Gholston for one game on Thursday.

The sophomore violated the conference's sportslike conduct agreement when he threw a punch at a Michigan player last weekend.

"William Gholston is a tremendous and extremely caring young person," MSU head football coach Mark Dantonio said. "In the heat of the moment, he momentarily lost his composure. Football is an emotional game of split-second reactions. It was an unfortunate incident. We look forward to his reinstatement."

Gholston said he regrets the incident, calling his actions "inappropriate."
