(Reuters) - New Jersey Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur will miss 7-10 days to rehabilitate a right shoulder injury, the team said on Wednesday.

Brodeur suffered the injury during the first period of last Thursday's game against the Los Angeles Kings and did not return for the second period. He will not need surgery.

The 39-year-old, the all-time leader in regular season wins and shutouts, traveled but did not suit up in New Jersey's game against Nashville on Saturday.

"Obviously when you've got a guy like Marty you want to take a cautious approach and a long-term approach, anyway, that he's with you for the entire year," Devils coach Peter DeBoer told reporters.

"But it definitely makes it easier when you've got a guy that's capable of coming in and playing like (Johan Hedberg) has."

Hedberg has stopped 45 of 47 shots since Brodeur was injured and is expected to get the start against San Jose on Friday.
