Detroit Tigers outfielder Magglio Ordonez will be sidelined the remainder of the playoffs due to a right ankle injury.
Tigers manager Jim Leyland said the problem for Ordonez is his ankle, which he broke in 2010.
"He will be done for the season. That's why he was taken out of the game last night," Leyland said. "I was shocked that nobody asked me about that last night. So I wasn't going to give any information at the time because we didn't have all the facts and details, but we've had some medical work done this morning, and he will miss the entire series and the rest of the season."
Ordonez is the second Tigers outfielder now out for the ALCS vs. the Rangers due to an injury. Delmon Young was left off the roster after suffering a left oblique strain during Game 5 of the Division Series against the New York Yankees.
"We're a real resilient team," Leyland said. "Do I like this, obviously, no. Do I like losing Delmon, obviously, no. But we're a tough team. We'll figure something out, and we'll get through this."
Ordonez started Saturday night's 3-2, Game 1 loss to the Rangers and was replaced by Don Kelly in the fifth inning. Ordonez was leading the Tigers with a .385 (5-for-13) batting average in this year's playoffs over five games, but didn't drive in a run.
"It just all of a sudden flared up," Leyland said of the injury to Ordonez. "After some medical tests and results this morning, it shows that there is a situation there that is not conducive to playing the rest of the year."
Leyland also said that his pitching rotation will stay the same for the remainder of this series, even though Game 2 of the best-of-seven set was postponed Sunday night to Monday afternoon due to rain.
"My rotation will stay exactly the same. Verlander, I know that will be a big question, so I'll take that off your mind as well, he'll pitch Game 5 under any circumstances," Leyland said. "Our rotation will be (Max) Scherzer, (Doug) Fister, (Rick) Porcello and Verlander in that order. Just the way we set it up originally."
