Tateyama appeared in 39 games out of the bullpen in his first season with Texas, posting a record of 2-0 with one save and a 4.50 earned run average. The 35-year-old sidewinding right-hander signed with the Rangers last November after spending his entire career playing in Japan.
Treanor, who batted .214 in 72 games during the regular season, did not appear in a game for Texas during the ALDS against Tampa Bay.
The Rangers carried three catchers for the last series and will have just two in the ALCS with Yorvit Torreabla backing up Mike Napoli. Should one of those two suffer an injury during the ALCS, the Rangers can again activate Treanor.
