The Woodlands, TX – Brad Faxon fired a seven-under 65 on Saturday to move atop the leaderboard after the second round of the Insperity Championship.
Faxon finished 36 holes at 10-under 134 and is one stroke ahead of Tommy Armour III, who posted a five-under 67 on Saturday at The Woodlands Country Club.
Faxon will be in search of his first Champions Tour victory in only his sixth start on the over-50 circuit. He won eight times on the PGA Tour with his most recent title coming in 2005.
Eduardo Romero shot his second straight four-under 68 on Saturday and is alone in third at eight-under 136. Jay Haas (67), U.S. Senior Open champion Olin Browne (68) and Champions Tour money leader Tom Lehman (70) share fourth at minus-seven.
Defending champion Fred Couples fired a nine-under 63 in the final round last year and will need something similar to make it two in a row. Couples managed an even-par 72 in the second round and is tied for 10th at four-under 140.
First-round leader Michael Allen, who matched Couples' course-record 63 on Friday, struggled to a seven-over 79 and fell into a share of 24th at two- under 142.
