FC Dallas announced Friday that defender Jair Benitez and midfielder Andrew Jacobson have signed contract extensions with the club. Per Major League Soccer and club policy, terms for each deal were not disclosed.
"We are very happy to be able to re-sign both Jair Benitez and Andrew Jacobson," FC Dallas head coach Schellas Hyndman said. "Jair has been an important part of FC Dallas' success. I consider him one of the best left fullbacks in Major League Soccer. Jair cannot only defend - he is also a very skillful fullback on the attack.
"Andrew Jacobson has really surpassed our expectations," Hyndman went on to say. "A skillful midfielder who also had the ability to play center back for us when the injuries began to pile up - [Andrew] is a great addition to FC Dallas. He will continue to grow into one of the best midfielders in the league. It is great to have players such as Jair and [Andrew], who want to continue to play for FC Dallas."
Benitez joined FC Dallas on loan from Colombian side Deportivo Cali in 2009. The 32-year-old has accumulated 65 appearances for the club, making 63 starts and recording five career assists.
Jacobson was acquired by FC Dallas in a trade with the Philadelphia Union in February in exchange for a pick in the 2013 MLS SuperDraft. In his 25 appearances for the club, he has recorded one goal and a team-leading total of five assists.
