Corey Pavin shot a seven-under 65 on Thursday to take the lead after the first round of the SAS Championship.

Pavin, a 15-time PGA Tour winner, has never won on the Champions Tour and leads for only the fifth time after any round. He had eight birdies and a bogey to start this tournament for his first lead of 2011 at Prestonwood County Club's Meadows and Highlands Course.

Several Champions Tour veterans are chasing Pavin, including defending champion Russ Cochran, who shot a six-under 66 and shares second with Nick Price, Kenny Perry and Gary Hallberg. Three of the four sharing second have won on the senior tour before, with the exception being Perry, a 14-time PGA Tour champ.

Play was halted for a bit of time due to lightning, but was able to remain on schedule just before darkness fell.

J.L. Lewis, Peter Senior, Rod Spittle and Jeff Sluman share sixth at five- under 67. All but 26 players in the 79-player field finished at even-par or better.
