Bolton midfielder Stuart Holden is set to miss the next six weeks because of another operation on his knee.

The USA international sustained ligament damage last March after a tackle from Manchester United's Jonny Evans, but after appearing in a Carling Cup match for Bolton recently, Holden needs more surgery on the knee.

"Our prime concern has always been Stuart's welfare and his long-term health and fitness," said Bolton manager Owen Coyle.

"It was looking likely that the operation could be scheduled for next summer, but after follow-up consultations with the specialists we have brought the date forward."

The 26-year-old joined Bolton from the Houston Dynamo in January 2010 and he became a consistent contributor last season for Wanderers before suffering the injury.

Holden scored two goals and assisted on two more in 26 games last season.
