BAYLOR: The Bears' unblemished record is no more, as they were ousted at seventh-ranked Oklahoma State on Saturday, 49-17. It was easily the worst performance of the season for a Baylor offense that came into the game averaging better than 61 points over its first nine games. And as a result, the Bears dropped from No. 3 to No. 9 in both the Top-25 and BCS standings, all but squashing their national title hopes. Heisman candidate Bryce Petty completed just 28-of-48 passes for 359 yards and two touchdowns for the Bears (9-1, 6-1), who had won 13 straight games dating back to last season. Shock Linwood, starting in place of an injured Lache Seastrunk (groin), rushed for only 29 yards on 14 carries and fumbled twice in the setback. Seastrunk was averaging 111 yards and more than one touchdown per game on the ground, and his absence had a huge impact on a Baylor team that hasn't been held to single-digit points in four years. The Bears have not won in Stillwater since 1939. They'll travel to TCU this weekend.
IOWA STATE: Grant Rohach threw for 300 yards and two touchdowns as the Iowa State Cyclones blanked the Kansas Jayhawks, at Jack Trice Stadium. Rohach completed 15-of-20 passes and also had an interception for Iowa State (2-9, 1-7 Big Ten), which won its first league game of the year and snapped a seven- game losing streak. While it was only the team's second win of the year, it did come against a Kansas squad that was coming off a solid win over West Virginia a week earlier. Shontrelle Johnson turned 13 carries into 84 yards and a touchdown, while Justin Coleman paced all receivers with eight catches and 78 yards. Iowa State outgained KU, 502-279, while holding the Jayhawks to 3-of-16 on third down. The 502 yards of total offense marked a season high, and the shutout was the Cyclones' first in Big 12 play since Sept. 29, 2001 against Baylor. They'll try to close out their season on a high note at West Virginia on Saturday.
KANSAS: The Jayhawks were unable to replicate last week's win over West Virginia and were shutout at Iowa State over the weekend, 34-0. The Cyclones seized the momentum in the second quarter of a 10-0 game when they stopped KU on 4th-and-1 at the ISU 13 to keep the Jayhawks off the scoreboard. James Sims, who rushed for 211 yards last weekend against WVU, finished with 114 yards on 21 carries. In the process, he became the school's first running back to post consecutive 1,000-yard rushing seasons. However, he was the lone bright spot for an offense that suffered its first shutout since Oct. 29, 2011 (Texas). The rest of the Jayhawks combined for only 148 total yards on the day, and they were stopped five times on fourth down. Meanwhile, the defense simply had no answer for a Cyclones team that produced season-highs of 300 passing yards and 202 rushing yards. Temperature at kickoff was 28 degrees, making it the coldest game ever played at Iowa State, although the Cyclones certainly had no problem battling the elements. KU will finish up its season at home against rival Kansas State on Saturday.
KANSAS STATE: The Wildcats fought hard against nationally-ranked Oklahoma but ultimately came away with a 41-31 home loss to fall to 6-5 (4-4 Big 12). Tyler Lockett caught three touchdowns with 278 receiving yards and 162 yards as a kick returner in the loss. He set a school record for most receiving yards in a game, breaking his own record of 237 yards on Sept. 21 against Texas. His 440 all-purpose yards were also a school record. Jake Waters completed 17- of-29 passes for 348 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions. The 348 passing yards were the most by a K-State quarterback since Josh Freeman threw for 478 against Oklahoma in 2008. However, Waters also threw an interception that was returned 74 yards for a fourth-quarter touchdown that effectively sealed the outcome. Defensively, the Wildcats struggled to contain OU's Brennan Clay, who ran for a career-high 200 yards and two scores. They'll finish up the regular season at Sunflower State rival Kansas on Saturday.
OKLAHOMA: Brennan Clay rushed for a career-high 200 yards on 31 carries with two touchdowns, as the No. 20 Oklahoma Sooners defeated the Kansas State Wildcats, 41-31, at Bill Snyder Stadium. OU extended its winning streak to 34 straight games when rushing for 200 yards or more. Redshirt freshman Trevor Knight started in place of the concussed Blake Bell and threw for 171 yards with a touchdown and interception. Knight also carried the ball 14 times for 82 yards and touchdown for the Sooners (9-2, 6-2 Big 12), winners of two straight. Jalen Saunders led Oklahoma receivers with 95 yards on seven catches and Sterling Shepard caught a touchdown. Bob Stoops won his 158th game as the Sooners head coach, passing Barry Switzer as the winningest coach in school history. OU improved to 10-0 in the state of Kansas under Stoops, and they have now won 10 straight games against opponents they lost to the previous season. The Wildcats defeated the Sooners, 24-19, last season. Oklahoma will get a bye this week before wrapping up the regular season at seventh-ranked Oklahoma State on Dec. 7.
OKLAHOMA STATE: The Cowboys moved from No. 11 to No. 7 in both the Top 25 and BCS standings following Saturday's 49-17 drubbing of a third-ranked Baylor team that had won 13 straight dating back to last season. Clint Chelf completed 19-of-25 passes for 370 yards and three touchdowns and also rushed for a score, while Kye Staley added a pair of rushing touchdowns for the Cowboys (10-1, 7-1 Big 12), who have rattled off seven straight wins since falling to West Virginia on Sept. 28. Chelf also had a 48-yard reception and Tracy Moore finished with five catches for 126 yards and a touchdown. Oklahoma State, which beat then-nationally ranked Texas on Nov. 16, now has the inside track to the Big 12 crown. The Cowboys will need either a win over No. 22 Oklahoma on Dec. 7 or a Baylor loss to either TCU or Texas to claim the conference's automatic BCS bowl bid. Meanwhile, the OSU defense bottled up a Baylor ground game that was missing star running back Lache Seastrunk, as his replacement, Shock Linwood, had only 29 yards on 14 carries.
TCU: The Horned Frogs were idle over the weekend. Their bowl hopes were dashed with last Saturday's 33-31 setback at Kansas State, and they'll wrap up their 2013 campaign at home against Baylor on Saturday.
TEXAS: The Longhorns (7-3, 6-1 Big 12) had a bye this weekend, a week after suffering their first conference loss of the year at home against Oklahoma State (38-13), which also snapped the team's six-game winning streak.
TEXAS TECH: The Red Raiders (7-4, 4-4 Big 12) got a much needed bye this week. After starting the season 7-0 and climbing as high as No. 10 in the national rankings, Texas Tech has lost four straight, three of which came against ranked foes. Tech will travel to Texas for a Thanksgiving night showdown.
WEST VIRGINIA: The Mountaineers (4-7, 2-6 Big 12) had another bye this weekend. Losers of five of their past six games, they are eliminated from bowl contention for the first time in 12 years and will close out the 2013 season at home against Iowa State on Saturday.
