Barcelona, Spain – Barcelona midfielder Ibrahim Afellay tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in training Thursday and will undergo surgery Friday that will sideline him for at least six months.
Afellay, 25, had just recently returned from a hamstring injury suffered in the preseason, and made just two appearances for the club this season.
The Netherlands international joined Barcelona last season, but could miss the rest of the 2011-12 campaign, depending on how long he is sidelined.
