Harris, Orlovsky among Colts' final roster deletions

Indianapolis, IN – Two offseason free-agent additions, defensive tackle Tommie Harris and quarterback Dan Orlovsky, headline the list of 27 players released by the Indianapolis Colts at Saturday's deadline to trim the active roster down to 53 men.

Harris, a three-time Pro Bowl selection and twice an All-Pro during a seven- year tenure with the Chicago Bears from 2004-10, signed a one-year contract with the Colts on Aug. 2 but failed to make an impression in the preseason.

The former first-round pick had been released by Chicago in February following a disappointing 2010 campaign in which he recorded just 13 tackles and 1 1/2 sacks and lost his starting job for a period.

Harris had been on the decline since a run of three consecutive Pro Bowls from 2005-07. In the last of those years, the 28-year-old set a career high with eight sacks and finished with 36 tackles.

Orlovsky, who had served as the No. 2 quarterback with fellow AFC South member Houston this past season, became expendable when the Colts signed 16-year veteran Kerry Collins on Aug. 24. The six-year pro hasn't thrown an NFL pass since 2007, when he stared seven games for Detroit and accumulated 1,616 yards and eight touchdowns with eight interceptions.

The Colts also waived safeties Al Afalava and Michael Hamlin, punter Travis Baltz, wide receivers Chris Brooks, David Gilreath, Larrone Moore, Taj Smith and Marshall Williams, defensive end John Chick, linebackers Chris Colasanti, Kerry Neal, Nate Triplett and Vuna Tuihalamaka, tight ends Tyson DeVree and Michael Matthews, defensive tackles John Gill, Ricardo Matthews and Ollie Ogbu, cornerback Brandon King and offensive linemen Kyle DeVan, Jake Kirkpatrick, Jacques McClendon, Mike Tepper and Michael Toudouze and running back Javarris James.

In addition, wide receiver Blair White was activated from the physically unable to perform list on Saturday. The second-year pro would have been ineligible for the regular season's first six weeks if not added to the active roster.

DeVan started 21 games at guard, including 12 in 2010, over the past two seasons, while James rushed for 112 yards and a team-best six touchdowns as an undrafted rookie last season.
