Quarterback Rudy Carpenter and rookie safety man limit.

Tampa Bay also released veteran defensive tackle John McCargo and placed long snapper Andrew Economos on the reserve/physically unable to perform list.

Carpenter made the Buccaneers' roster as a No. 3 quarterback behind starter Josh Freeman and backup Josh Johnson last preseason, but head coach Raheem Morris opted to keep just two signal-callers in advance of the team's September 11 opener against Detroit. Jonathan Crompton, who spent last season on the Patriots' practice squad, was also waived.

Black was a fifth-round pick by Tampa Bay in this past April's draft, but couldn't make an impression on the coaching staff mostly due to a high ankle sprain that sidelined him through most of camp.

Economos will miss at least the first six weeks of the regular season while recovering from a torn Achilles tendon he sustained in the offseason. McCargo, a failed former first-round selection of Buffalo, had been signed on August 20 as a practice body due to injuries at defensive tackle.

The Buccaneeers also waived running backs Armando Allen and Mossis Madu, center Matt Allen, offensive tackles Will Barker and Cory Brandon, guard Thomas Claiborne, wide receiver Ed Gant, tight ends Daniel Hardy, Nathan Overbay and Ryan Purvis, safety Dominique Harris, linebackers Brandon Heath, Simoni Lawrence, Derrell Smith and Tyrone McKenzie, defensive ends Alex Magee and Kyle Moore, fullback Nick Reveiz, kicker Jacob Rogers and defensive tackle Al Woods.

In addition, guard Marc Dile and wide receiver Maurice Price were released with injury settlements.

Hardy was a seventh-round selection in this past April's draft.
