The New York Giants closed out the preseason in 17, at Gillette Stadium.

Down by 14 points, Da'Rel Scott opened the fourth quarter by rumbling 65 yards on a fake punt to trim New York's deficit to 17-10. Later in the stanza, Derrick Martin recovered a Richard Medlin fumble and scored on an 11-yard return. A successful two-point conversion put the Giants by one with 9:40 remaining.

On the first play from scrimmage, New England defensive back Patrick Chung recovered a fumble and returned it to the goal line, setting up the first of BenJarvus Green-Ellis' two one-yard touchdowns.

Devin McCourty intercepted New York quarterback David Carr on the Giants' second series, and Stephen Gostkowski kicked a 31-yard field goal to put the Patriots up 10-0.

Rhys Lloyd drilled a 48-yard field goal to put the Giants on the board, but Green-Ellis' second end zone plunge made it 17-3 inside the opening minute of the second quarter.

Carr converted 13-of-21 passes and finished with 116 yards for the Giants, who entered the game on a mere two days of rest after Hurricane Irene postponed their originally-scheduled showdown with the New York Jets from last Saturday to Monday.

New England's Tom Brady threw for 116 yards in limited action.

Both the Giants and Patriots open the regular season on the road. New York visits the Washington Redskins on September 11, while the Miami Dolphins host New England a day later.
