Triplett leads by 1 in Tennessee

Kirk Triplett posted a four-under 68 Saturday stroke lead after three rounds of the News Sentinel Open.

Triplett, a three-time winner on the PGA Tour, finished 54 holes at 17-under- par 199. He will go for his first Nationwide Tour victory on Sunday.

Second-round leader John Mallinger overcame a triple-bogey on No. 8 to shoot an even-par 72. He was joined in second place at minus-16 by Kevin Kisner (68) and Aaron Goldberg (65).

Marco Dawson, who tied for second place in 1999, also fired a 65 to match Goldberg for low round of the day at Fox Den Country Club.

Dawson jumped into a share of fifth place at 15-under-par 201. He stands alongside James Nitties (66), Garrett Willis (71), Paul Claxton (69), Ted Potter, Jr. (68) and Steve Wheatcroft (67).

This is the second year in a row Triplett has contended at this event. He shared third place in 2010 after closing with a three-under 69.
