The Boston Red Sox recalled pitcher Scott A Pawtucket on Friday and optioned catcher Ryan Lavarnway to Pawtucket.
Atchison posted a 4.70 earned run average in nine total relief appearances in four previous stints with the Sox this season. He has also gone 6-2 with a 2.64 ERA and four saves in 33 games with the PawSox in 2011.
Lavarnway hit .304 with two doubles, three RBI and four walks in seven games during his initial call-up, which began on August 18.
The 24-year-old combined for 30 home runs, 21 doubles and 85 RBI with a .293 average between Pawtucket and Double-A Portland this year.
