Pirates option two, recall two

The Pittsburgh Pirates made several roster moves prior to Thursday's clash with the St. Louis Cardinals.

The team optioned infielder Pedro Ciriaco and pitcher Aaron Thompson to Triple-A Indianapolis and recalled outfielder Alex Presley and infielder Chase d'Arnaud from the farm club and activated them off the 15-day disabled list.

Ciriaco, 25, had three hits in 12 at-bats with two RBI and two runs scored in 11 games this season for the Pirates, while Thompson made his major league debut for Pittsburgh on Wednesday, going 4 1/3 scoreless innings in a 2-0 shutout of the Milwaukee Brewers.

Presley, 26, had been on the disabled list since July 23 with a left thumb contusion. In 20 games for the Pirates this season, Presley batted a robust .333 with a home run and nine RBI.

d'Arnaud had also been on the DL with a chip fracture in his right pinkie finger. The infielder has played in 25 games this season, compiling a .225 average with three RBI and 11 runs scored.
