Philadelphia, PA – Suzann Pettersen collected an improbable win Sunday at the Safeway Classic and that helped her move up one spot to No. 2 in the women's world golf rankings.
Pettersen trailed by nine at the start of the day and finished more than two hours ahead of the last group. Na Yeon Choi bogeyed the final hole to create the playoff, then Pettersen won with a par on the first extra hole after Choi found water with her second shot to the par-four closing hole.
Yani Tseng is still firmly the No. 1 player and Pettersen's move bumped Cristie Kerr to No. 3.
Jiyai Shin held steady in fourth and was followed again by Choi, Sun Ju Ahn, Ai Miyazato, I.K. Kim and Paula Creamer.
Stacy Lewis and Karrie Webb exchanged places with Lewis up to No. 10. Inbee Park climbed one to 12th and bumped Morgan Pressel down to No. 13.
Michelle Wie and Brittany Lincicome remained 14th and 15th. Chie Arimura jumped four to No. 16, while Song-Hee Kim held steady in 17th.
Sakura Yokomine improved one to 18th, Maria Hjorth tumbled three to 19th and Angela Stanford fell a pair to No. 20.
Catriona Matthew won the Ladies Scottish Open on the Ladies European Tour and jumped five places to No. 31.
