The Pittsburgh Pirates announced on Wednesday that hurler Kevin Hart underwent successful arthroscopic surgery Tuesday on his right shoulder.

The surgery was performed by noted specialist Dr. James Andrews in Pensacola, Florida.

Hart is expected to be on schedule to return in time for spring training next season and will begin the rehabilitation process immediately.

The 28-year-old underwent a similar procedure last May to repair a torn labrum in his pitching shoulder, also done by Andrews.

He has not pitched in the majors since going 1-8 with a 6.92 earned run average in 10 starts for Pittsburgh in 2009.
