PHILADELPHIA (Reuters) - The Philadelphia Eagles snapped up yet another high-profile free agent Wednesday by luring wide receiver Steve Smith away from NFC East rivals the New York Giants.
Free agent Smith has signed a one-year deal with the Eagles, though terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Smith, who captured a Super Bowl with the Giants in 2008, had been expected to re-sign with New York but has opted to join an Eagles team tipped by many for the Super Bowl this season.
"I think they're on the right path to winning a championship," Smith told the team's website (philadelphiaeagles.com). "It just seemed like a great fit."
Smith caught 107 passes in his Pro Bowl 2009 season, but suffered a season-ending knee injury last December and is still unable to practice.
When he does return to the field, he will join Pro Bowl receiver DeSean Jackson and wideout Jeremy Maclin in an offense led by Michael Vick at quarterback.
Smith is the sixth Pro Bowl player acquired by Philadelphia this offseason, joining cornerbacks Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Nnamdi Asomugha, defensive lineman Jason Babin, quarterback Vince Young and running back Ronnie Brown.
