PLYMOUTH, Mich. - The Plymouth Whalers acquired 20-year-old forward Andy Bathgate from the Belleville Bulls on Thursday in exchange for third round picks in the 2013 and 2014 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection.
Bathgate was selected by Belleville in the third round (54th overall) of the 2007 OHL Priority Selection. He was taken 151st overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the fifth round of the 2009 National Hockey League entry draft.
Last season, Bathgate scored 25 goals and 35 assists in 64 games.
In all, Bathgate has scored 42 goals and 75 assist for 97 points in 172 career games in the OHL.
The acquisition of Bathgate gives Plymouth five over-age players on the roster — forwards RJ Mahalak, Jamie Devane and Peter Neal, along with Bathgate — and defenceman Beau Schmitz.
OHL teams carry three over-ages every season.
